Long Live The TI99/4A & GENEVE

The Dijit Systems Advanced Video Processor Card (AVPC) was an 80 Column card that fit into the PEB.
Along with a suitable RGB monitor turned the TI-99/4A console into a 80 Column device.

For More Info on this card please see here: http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/hardware/peb/avpc.html

There was only one problem the original TI99 Operating System on powerup writes the registers in
such a way that it was incompatible with the new register setup of the upgraded V9938 system, so
DIJIT Systems designed a special power-up DSR located on the card’s EEPROM that tries to correct
this error, but their layout was not perfect as such we wrote a improved DSR version for others!

Inside this archive, you will find the following files:

AVPC010-S – Original DSR EPROM coded by DIJIT

AVPC020-S – The First Improved Version by OPA

AVPC030-S – The Commerical Release of new DSR

AVPC032-S – Newer 3.2 Update But Not Released

AVPCSOB-S – Custom Version for those with SOB

SET994A-S – Code to set 994A mode in XB Progs

V9958-S – Super-Cart Program to Test Video!

BackupV9T9.zip – The above files in TI Format!

Release Rules are simple, you are free to study and improved this code to use on your Card or to emulate it.
Just please remember to give correct credit to the original source of this set of Assembly files!

RAMBO is a software & hardware package specially designed for HORIZON ramdisks in your TI99/4A expansion box.

The standard Horizon is designed mainly to be a ramdisk, with >4000 based RAM (TI99 DSR space), a 6K DSR for ROS_8, & 2K RAM pages to allow easy reading & writing of sectors. This is fine for ramdisk operations, but using the Horizon memory for other applications was found by many software developers including OPA to be too difficult.

But now, OPA in co-operation with BUD MILLS SERVICES has broken this barrier in the Horizon world by designing a combination of a 1″*1″ PCBoard containing a complex PAL, & the new ROS_8, all easily installed in any Horizon ramdisk model. Using ROS_8, you can easily partion the on-board memory between RAMDISK and PROGRAM space.

Combined use of this new PROGRAM space, a function of RAMBO, and ROS_8, allows new, larger and more powerful programs to use the partitioned Horizon memory in a format better designed for direct Assembly use or execution.

(A programmers’ development package for RAMBO, is described elsewhere on this website).

RAMBO comes complete with:

Step-By-Step User Installation Guide.

The complete ROS_8 package (which is described here on our website), a $10.00 value.

An earlier version of OPA’s RECALLIT 2001 (described here on our website), an $8 value.

Two powerful & useful sample demo programs, with commented source code, and documentation.

When John Johnson released ROS_7, it soon became standard for HORIZONs, offering more features than before & was the most compatible problem-free ROS ever; but unforeseen problems and limitations were found as new devices like V9938 upgrades, hard drives, and larger Horizons appeared. A new series became imperative when OPA released RAMBO. In co-operation with BUD MILLS SERVICES work began on a more powerful ROS package. A new operating system supporting all HORIZON models compatible with over thirty different devices was not an easy task, and many of the initial users had more problems, but now we are pleased to say with ROS_8.14, users report compatibility with all devices, except the RAVE memory expansion.

The ROS_8.14 package includes:

> Complete 30 page User Operating Manual, covering CFG, ROS, MENU, TST, and RAMBO.

> ConFiGure program allows you to load/save the ROS, partition memory between 1 to 10 uniquely numbered/lettered ram-disks and RAMBO space, change fonts, set colors, and setup custom calls.

> Ram-Operating System when loaded via CFG, controls your Horizon to interface and look completely like a floppy drive to your system.

> JJ’s boot-up MENU program allows you on power-up and exit from any program to:

catalog disks

view/delete files

access custom calls

run programs from the 24-item changeable menu

or directly from a ramdisk catalog of its files

> OPA’s Horizon TeSTer program,is a high-speed and thorough board tester for all HORIZONs. It detects most all possible hardware failures in memory storage & support control.

Reaching this goal means understanding how quickly programs can become outdated therefore we study our software, listing what customers want added, and when possible mailing out free updates. When you buy a program from us, you are getting a subscription to these updates. This does not mean our programs need to be updated a lot. Many have not changed since they were first released, because we do spend time and effort on in-house beta-testing.
The result is a program you know can be trusted. When we update, it’s because of new features, not because we left major bugs behind.

Some information on our Phoenix 2001 programs can be now found on the following pages:

Again this program has been recently been recovered, thanks in part of some ex-OPA employees saving TI99 stuff for no reason, and as such we are now working on updating to support Nano-PEB and CF7+ usage and plan to make it one of our ‘public’ releases later on this year as part of our 30th birthday party event.
